As a nursing student, you are assigned to care for a 10-year-old female patient, Sam Duke who has a peritonsillar abscess, presenting with fever, chills, fatigue, nausea, and difficulty swallowing. The patient’s oral temperature at triage was 39 degrees Celsius; Heart Rate 100; Blood Pressure – 90/50; Oxygen saturation 98% on room air.

Blood work results include: CBC – WBC-19; C&S swab of the site is pending.

Sam is admitted to the medical-surgical floor accompanied by her mother. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) has ordered medications to be administered upon arrival to the floor. This information can be found on the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
