Steven Lewis, 80-year-old, has undergone a right hemicolectomy with a temporary colostomy for adenocarcinoma of the colon. Past health includes hypertension x 10 years treated with metoprolol 25 mg BID, coversyl 5 mg daily. He had an uneventful surgery, with an estimated blood loss of 200 mL. He was stable throughout the OR and post-anesthetic recovery. The patient received a total of Morphine 10 mg in the recovery room and the patient-controlled analgesia was initiated upon return to the surgical unit for pain management.

Game synopsis:

This virtual simulation involves a post-operative patient with a patient-controlled analgesia pump. Following assessment, the nurse identifies the patient is experiencing respiratory depression and must communicate with the healthcare provider to identify and prioritize care.
