The patient was referred to a surgical oncologist and a radiation oncologist at a regional cancer center, concerning test results confirming prostate cancer. The client was provided with two potential treatment options: a radical prostatectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection, or combination brachytherapy with external beam radiation. Both procedures, risks and outcomes were explained and further tests were ordered. The client needs to make a final decision about which treatment option they would like to proceed with. As per the standard of care, the learner will assume the role of the oncology nurse to discuss the options with the client and his partner.
