Based on Developing Empathy for the Lived Experience in Psychiatric Disability: A Simulation of Hearing Distressing Voices by Pat Deegan. This is a fully developed station-based simulation. One station involves students “hearing voices” while performing tasks. The other stations are adaptations on de-escalating an agitated patient (3 phases) and administering meds (they can’t at clinical for the mental health nursing course at this level) with SP’s in the other stations. The only direct connection to Deegan’s Hearing Voices is the intro by her, and the use of the MP3 players or an audio clip of auditory hallucinations. The tasks supported in this simulation activity are different from those suggested in the Hearing Voices program.
