Patient Zack MacAulay is a 2-month-old infant admitted to the Pediatrics Unit accompanied by parent Lee. Zack has a 2-day history of coughing, runny nose, and inability to settle easily. Over the last 24 hours Zack has had a noticeable increase in their work of breathing, has increased coughing, and isn’t able to breastfeed for more than a few minutes at a time. Zack’s parent Lee brought him into the emergency department overnight where he was triaged. Zack has not yet been assessed by the primary nurse. The physician has not yet seen the patient. Lee is a single parent, and this is their first baby. They are very anxious about their child being admitted to hospital.
